This Year's Model Updates:

Chevrolet has redesigned the decade-old C/K pickup and given the truck a new name. Major structural, power, braking and interior enhancements characterize the new Silverado. Styling is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, inside and out.

Pros:
  • Bigger. Faster. Stronger. Smarter.

I am very pleased with the performace, reliabilty, appearence. I have now 98000 miles and the gas mileage is great, and I repair most on the every day matainence such as brakes, oil change etc. I expect to get long many years from my truck in these trying years with the gas prices.

  • Chevy got mine right! - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Purchasing Sivlerado new was a very smart move for me. At the time Im writing this I have 185,000 miles on the thing. Im on my third set of rear break pads, I replaced the fronts at 173,000 miles. The only currrent issue is a very small amount of surface rust on the rocker panels (rust is expected in Michigan). Ive got the 4.8 liter, it just keeps running and getting around 18MPG(average). I had to replace the drivers window motor at 39,000 miles, the instrument cluster and drive shaft replacement were both warrenty work.

Had to repair transmission @ 60,000 miles ($1900), ABS system went kaput about the same time (est. $1,000 repair); have since found that this is a common problem that Chevy will not own up to. In spite of all these problems, I still like the truck. Its comfortable driving and fairly luxurious for a truck.

  • Silverados are junk - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Many small minor problems. Transmission replaced at 58,000 miles. Brakes are junk...have never worked right. Passenger seat belt doesnt work correctly...never has. Engine vibrates badly especially on cold mornings. Eats fan belts. Have work with 2 dealers Terry Lee Chevrolet and Rose Chevrolet. Didnt seemed concerned about my complaints. Never fixed any problem I had...said I had to live with the problems. Have bought GM vehicles for over 30 years but never again!!!!!!

  • Great Truck - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought this truck with 136,000 miles and now has 207,000. The motor and transmission has never given me a problem, lots of power and hasnt seemed to have lost any. Still doesnt use oil. The only problems (replaced both front brake lines, front right side spindle, both rear rotors, one of the passenger side manifold bolts broke and caused a small exhaust leak, and had rust fixed on rear lower drivers side quarter panel). This truck has been very reliable, I drive it all over the country and still driving it all over the country, the mileage doesnt worry me at all. 5.3 extended cab, z71. Fuel mileage is 17 on highway and 12 in cities.

  • Silverado Nightmare - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

A big lemon from bad water pump to poor engineering (door stops and parking brakes. Several recalls. GM refuses to fix major items of failure such as ABS computer ($1,200). My next car? You can bet it wont be GM!

  • Over 200000 and going strong - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

I bought this truck used in 2000 with 20,000 miles with the 4.8l and currently have 211,000 miles. Mechanically I have had no problems except for fuel pump 1200 dollars to fix 145,000 miles. And sun shell in transmission breaking at 180,000 miles. Engine still running strong and still getting 18-19 mpg. Not fond of the shaky drive which I had since day one, dealer said there was no problem. Still waiting to do 2nd brake job, great brake life. Not fond of the cheapness of the interior. But I know I can easily get to 300,000 miles. Strong engine.

  • 155k and still going - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Got this with 80k on it and its at 155k now. I cant find a car this comfortable. Love my captains chair. 5.3 V8 is a great engine. Ive had 2700lbs of cement bags in the back of this. Im gonna cry when I trade her away. I figure Im driving this for less than $2000 a year.

  • Luv my Silverado - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

It is a gem to drive, and quite comfortable. Very stylish, great economy. Sporty with the 5-speed trans. Oodles of power for a v-6. Best looking truck on the road. Only minor problem with injectors at about 30,000 miles and Chevrolet fixed it under a service bulletin. You cant find a better truck!

  • Silverado: Power, Reliability & Styling - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Ive owned 2 Fords and now a Chevy. The Silverado exceeded my expectations and forced me to fall in love with the brand. Boat load of power, great exhaust sound (duals), and nice styling. No problems except a bad radiator seal at 50,000 mi but warrantied. No recalls either, unlike the typical Ford 3-4 serious defects per model.
